About Us Health is holistic, every action we take is aimed at promoting sound health through mental health interventions.

Nigeria faces a critical challenge in addressing the mental health needs of children and adolescents. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 in 6 young people aged 10–19 worldwide experience a mental health condition, but mental health services for this age group are limited, especially in low- and middle-income countries like Nigeria. Despite the increasing global awareness of mental health issues, Nigeria’s mental health system remains underdeveloped, in this, children and adolescents are greatly underserved and marginalised.
Recent studies estimate that about 20 - 30% of children and adolescents in Nigeria suffer from mental health disorders. Common conditions include anxiety, depression, and behavioural disorders, with many of these issues exacerbated by poverty, trauma, and social stigmatization.
Sadly, Nigeria has fewer than 300 psychiatrists for its entire population of over 200 million people, translating to approximately 1 psychiatrist per 500,000 people. Even fewer specialises in child and adolescent mental health. Many regions lack facilities, specialists, or even basic mental health services, leaving children and teens without the support they need.
Moreover, mental health is heavily stigmatized in Nigeria, with many parents and communities attributing mental health conditions to spiritual causes or moral failings. This stigma prevents families from seeking help, leaving many children untreated and vulnerable to more severe mental health challenges as they grow older. Studies have shown that untreated mental health disorders in childhood can lead to increased dropout rates, substance abuse, and criminal behaviour, further perpetuating cycles of poverty and social disadvantage.

Our Solution

In light of these challenges, Blaze Health Foundation is committed to combating mental health inequity through a unique combination of research, innovation, and community-based interventions. We focus on providing accessible, evidence-based mental health services and education specifically targeted at children, teens, and young adults. We partner with individuals, families, communities, and healthcare professionals, to bridge the significant gap in mental health care for Nigeria's young population
With this holistic approach, we are striving to ensure that mental health care is not only available but also destigmatized and accessible for underserved populations, offering hope and support to the next generation.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS (MHAC) IN SCHOOLS

We recognize that schools are key environments for reaching young people early and providing them with the knowledge and tools they need to protect their mental well-being. Our Mental Health Awareness Campaigns (MHAC) target schools, focusing on children, adolescents, and young adults up to the age of 25. Through interactive workshops, mental health education and counselling activities, we educate teachers and students on mental health issues, destigmatize conversations around mental health, and provide resources for seeking help. Through this strategy, we aim to empower them to prioritize their mental health and recognize when they or their peers may need support.

COUNSELLING SERVICES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

We offer confidential and professional counselling services for individuals aged 11 to 25 years. Our trained counsellors provide one-on-one support to help young people manage issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and other mental health challenges. We believe that early intervention is key, and our counselling services are designed to offer young people a safe and supportive space to talk about their struggles, develop coping mechanisms, and build resilience. These services are our ways of supporting young individuals who may not have access to mental health care or who need guidance but are unsure where to turn.

COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS PROGRAMS

At Blaze Health Foundation, we understand that mental health is not just an individual issue but a community one. We actively engage people at the grassroots through our mental health awareness programs, recognizing that increasing community knowledge and reducing stigma will create a more supportive environment for our target beneficiaries. Our community awareness efforts include outreach events in partnership with local leaders to spread accurate information about mental health, challenge misconceptions, and encourage positive behavioural changes at the grassroots level. At Blaze Health Foundation, we believe that when we foster communities that are informed and compassionate about mental health, we can ensure that children, adolescents, and young adults are more likely to receive the understanding and support they need from those around them.
